NCAA Information for Athletes

Checklist for College Bound Athletes
 
  1. NCAA recommends that students wanting to compete in NCAA sports, register before their freshmen year at www.eligibilitycenter.org
  2. Fill out an "Official Transcript Request" form at the Registrar's Office and have an official transcript sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center at the end of your junior year.
  3. Earn a minimum 2.3 core-course GPA.
  4. Check with your Counselor to make sure that you are on track to graduate and complete the sixteen core courses in a timely manner.
  5. Request final amateurism certification during your senior year. (beginning April)
  6. Fill out an "Official Transcript Request" form at the Registrar's Office and request that your final transcript with proof of graduation be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Note: ACT/SAT Test Scores:  In January 2023, NCAA Divisions I and II adopted legislation to remove standardized test scores from initial-eligibility requirements for all student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. Check with the NCAA school you plan to attend regarding whether standardized test scores are necessary for admission or scholarship requirements.

16 Core-Courses

Prospective athletes must complete 16 NCAA-approved core-course credits in eight academic semesters or four consecutive academic years from the start of ninth grade. If the athlete graduates from high school early, the 16-core-course requirements must still be met. 
 
Not all high school classes count as NCAA core courses. Only classes in English, math (Algebra 1 or higher), natural or physical science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion or philosophy may be approved as NCAA core courses. Remedial classes and classes completed through credit-by-exam are not considered NCAA core courses.
